This sweet maternity session on Geist Reservoir was a dream to photograph. I love when families want to incorporate something meaningful to them into their portraits. For this family, that’s being on the water.
Zarah and her husband Daniel first met on his boat on a lake. Being on the water has been a key part of their family’s story ever since. They named their son Lake and wanted to have their maternity session to celebrate this season of life. They are part of the membership and have three more sessions with me in the future to welcome and document their baby girl, Roan!

I’m so honored that Zarah and Daniel drove all the way from Lafeyette for their first session with me. Mom chose to style the family in their own clothing. She loves navy and blue and wanted that “by-the-water” feel, which I think was made complete with Dad’s shirt!
We could not have asked for a better evening or had more fun. This sweet family was full of so much joy and their excitement was contagious! Lake loved looking at the boats, giving Mom kisses, and riding on Dad’s shoulders. I cannot wait to see him with his baby sister!
To make sure they never have to forget a moment, we have started a first year album and we’ll add their favorites after each session. I can only imagine how sweet it will be to sit down with Roan and Lake one day and tell them about each of these moments.
