Hi, I'm Lindsay

Choosing your pregnancy photoshoot style doesn’t have to be stressful. As the years go by, you’ll treasure your maternity photos. It may not feel like it at this moment, but you’ll look back on these images with such sweet nostalgia. You’ll hardly believe that’s your sweet baby in there, just waiting to meet you!

Follow my steps below to decide your pregnancy photoshoot style for your upcoming maternity session, so you’ll have images you’ll love forever.

Finding Your Pregnancy Photoshoot Style

Envisioning Your Portraits – Take a moment to dream about your final maternity portraits. Where do you envision displaying them in your home? Are you taking newborn portraits as well and want your maternity portraits to match the same style? Thinking about your answers to these questions will help us through the next few tips.

Session Location – Outdoor or in-studio maternity photos? With a studio session, we don’t have to worry about the weather affecting our session. With timeless backdrops, your session will always look beautiful on the walls. If you choose to book your newborn photography session or even your First Year Collective with me, we can take all of your portraits in the studio which will create a beautiful, cohesive look for your portrait artwork. For outdoor sessions, I have several beautiful locations we can choose from! These are usually done at sunset for the best glowy and warm light.

Wardrobe Style – I always want my moms to feel comfortable and confident in their session day wardrobe. For maternity sessions, I recommend dresses that flatter you and match the aesthetic that you’re looking for. A new trend I’m also seeing is a more casual look with jeans and a crop top or white button down to show off your bump! I love this as a secondary look for your session. We can definitely incorporate more than one outfit, in fact, I encourage you to!

Choose your pregnancy photoshoot style

Flowy dresses vs form fitting – I’m loving the trend towards a flowy maternity dress vs a form-fitting dress. With a flowy dress, we can still pose you in a way that shows off the bump in a beautiful dress that flatters you in all the right places. With that being said, sometimes a form fitting dress can be the way to go! It’s all about what YOU feel comfortable wearing, my top priority is always to make sure you feel amazing!

Best Colors for Maternity Session – The best colors for a maternity session are whites, creams, light pinks, light blues, and soft patterns. Likewise, these colors photograph beautifully, and these framed portraits will complement almost any home decor. I tend to suggest avoiding loud or bright patterns and colors. Wearing these colors can distract from your beautiful bump!

how to plan your pregnancy photoshoot

Minimal Accessories – Plan on minimal jewelry and other accessories for your pregnancy photoshoot. For example, big earrings will take attention away from your baby bump.

Professional Hair and Makeup – No matter what session style, professional hair and makeup is a must. Furthermore, you’ll feel relaxed, confident, and photo-ready for your session.
