I’ll never get over the beauty of photographing parents with their first baby. There truly is just nothing like it, and I am so honored that more and more parents are looking for studio newborn photography in Fishers. It’s all very relaxed, we don’t force posing (more on baby-led posing below), and focus on the love between you and your baby!
When I first started talking with Kristin, she was just so excited. Like many new moms, she didn’t know what to expect but wanted to document the awe and excitement they share for their firstborn. Those first few weeks are full of bonding and it’s something she wanted to be able to look back on.
So much of what we do leading up to and during your newborn session (and really any session with me) is to eliminate stress and create an environment that allows you to just be with your family.
In doing that, we’re able to document the connection and love you share in a way that feels very genuine. I want you to be comfortable, your baby to feel relaxed, and for it to be a day you look back on with fond memories!
Baby-Led Posing
Baby-led posing in newborn photography is a method that prioritizes the comfort and safety of the newborn above all else. Unlike traditional posing techniques where the photographer manipulates the baby into certain positions, baby-led posing allows the infant to dictate their own movements and poses, with the photographer capturing those natural moments.
Moreover, baby-led posing captures the genuine essence and personality of the newborn. Instead of forcing the baby into unnatural positions, this approach allows them to express themselves freely, resulting in authentic and heartwarming images that reflect their unique character.
Whether it’s a sleepy yawn, a delicate stretch, or a subtle smile, these spontaneous moments convey the innocence and purity of infancy in a way that posed shots often cannot replicate.
Everett was wide awake for a lot of the beginning of his newborn session. The beauty of baby-led posing is we don’t put expectations on baby and instead, allow for your little one’s unique personality to unfold. Whether they’re awake or sleepy, how they like to curl up or keep their hands by their face, etc. These positions are habits that all point to how they spent their time in the womb. So sweet!
Because it’s often a question I get asked, I’ll answer it here too. What if my baby doesn’t cooperate?
The truth? They may not…at first. But that is exactly why I love the baby-led posing approach. It allows your baby to settle in the way that feels most natural to them. They are still so little and are used to being curled up in the womb. Some babies fall asleep immediately and some take a little time. Some are okay without Mom and Dad and others need a little more comfort. And sometimes, we go back and forth and that’s okay too.
I have yet to meet a baby that I couldn’t calm enough to get into a position that feels natural for them.
Enjoy a little peek into Everett’s studio newborn session!
